Eating One Meal a Day for Weight Loss
We all know the old wives tale; one big meal will turn to fat. The standard line passed down from bodybuilders through fitness fanatics on to the likes of me and you is that we need to graze on calories throughout the day. Six meals and protein shakers. But for a lot of us all the measuring and calculation leads only to frustration. And even if it did work, there must be a better way. Do we really need to swallow this and stress and obsess over constant feeds or is eating one meal a day for weight loss an option?
If eating one meal a day for weight loss can work it means that we are free from the food fascist dogma….and of course, we are.
1) Energy balance is the difference that makes the difference
The basic rule of weight loss is that of energy balance; if you use more calories than you take in, you will lose weight. Studies have shown when it comes to weight loss it doesn’t matter how or when we take in our calories. Time is not of the essence, total calories are. So whether you eat your calories throughout the day or in one main meal is not the factor to focus on; the amount that you eat is.
2) Eating one meal a day may have powerful benefits
One main meal mimics our caveman ancestors who really didn’t have the option of snacking whenever they felt like it. The day was for toil, the evening for eating. There is strong evidence to suggest that our bodies are actually designed to make the most of this, with hormonal benefits that promote fat burning and lean muscle; the route to a lean and toned version of you.
A very popular diet at the moment is the Paleo diet, which promotes health through adopting eating patterns closer to the diet of the traditional hunter gatherer. Eating one main meal a day is another way to achieve this through the timing of your meal.
3) High meal frequency is designed for people who want to be bigger!
Bodybuilders came up with this eating pattern as a way of taking in enough calories to fuel the massive growth they are after. Great for them, but do you really want to be following a plan designed for big bulky guys, by big bulky guys? Leave 6 meals a day to bodybuilders.
4)Free your mind, and your time!
There are many variations when it comes to the kind of nutrition plan you can successfully use, but eating one meal a day for weight loss just may be the one to fit you. It certainly isn’t wrong and you will get further, faster by finding a way to leave the dieting dogma behind in favour of a way that fits your life.
Fitness to fit you is what we want. You may well find the results you seek lie just off the beaten track with eating one meal a day for weight loss.
